September 2008
Glyncornel Angling Association recently held it's 6th and final fly fishing competition of 2008 at Glyncornel Lake Tonypandy. As this last competition was the finale to what has been a truly outstanding year for the club there was an even greater feeling of competitiveness amongst the members who competed on the day. With only half a point separating the leading two 1st division anglers going into the last competition, there was still a lot to play for. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th division places were also very close with only a few points separating the first 3 or 4 places. Winner on the day was Ian Jones (Vice Chairman), with 2nd and 3rd positions going to Mark Rowbotham and James Parry respectively.
1st Position and Division 1 Winner, Ian Jones with his "haul" of 4 fish for 18 lb 03 oz.
The biggest fish of the day award also went to Ian Jones who landed himself a 6 lb rainbow trout, and the tag fish award went to Mark Rowbotham. With a total weight of 18 lb 3 oz, Ian also had the heaviest bag of four fish over the whole of the 2008 season.
3rd Position James Parry 5th Position Terry Bassett
Winners of the four division championships were Ian Jones (1st division), Mark Rowbotham (2nd division), Clive Perry (3rd division) and joint winners Mike Owen and Terry Bassett (4th division). A full list of the positions for the last competition and the overall positions for the 2008 season championship can be found in the "Competition Results" section of the website.
Congratulatations also to 12 year old junior member Daniel Griffiths from Treorchy for catching his personal best rainbow trout of 5 lb 15 oz during the last competition.
