Generally on competition days and for a few days after, lures work particularly well.
Typical lures are:
Green & White Cats Whiskers
Orange Fritz
Daddy Longlegs etc.
Of course throughout the season other well known flies may also work just as well such as:

Diawl Bachs
Montanas
Pheasant Tail Nymphs
and others depending on the day
